Matt, I sense that we work in identical organizations, both in training and the 'power user' community. We spend an inordinate amount of time in IT answering questions that shouldn't come up in an organization that has had Sap installed for as long as we have (and relatively unchanged since go-live).
In our case it was the incoming CFO who had used Peoplesoft in his last job and thought his customized reports were the best and Sap wasn't good because of that. And like yours, our executives have given up on big changes due to cost.
In reference to SCN, I'm one of those 'power lurkers', using it as the de-facto Sap support portal.
So no, you are not so unusual.
